The Clown Barb (Barbodes everetti) is a robust cyprinid endemic to Southeast Asian waterways, distinguished by its pronounced red coloration punctuated with jet-black vertical striations. These schooling fish exhibit complex intraspecific hierarchies and require groups of minimum six individuals to establish stable social structures and minimize aggression. Tank requirements include temperatures of 24-28°C, slightly acidic to neutral pH, and substantial vegetative cover to provide refuge and reduce stress. Their omnivorous diet accommodates quality pellets, vegetable matter, and occasional live foods. Clown Barbs are compatible with similarly-sized, non-aggressive community members and demonstrate longevity exceeding five years under optimal conditions. Their behavioral complexity and aesthetic appeal make them exemplary subjects for intermediate to advanced hobbyists pursuing naturalistic aquascaping methodologies.
