The rope fish is a unique freshwater species prized by experienced aquarists for its distinctive eel-like appearance and nocturnal behaviour. Native to West African waters, this elongated fish features a mottled brown coloration that provides excellent camouflage among aquatic vegetation. Rope fish are bottom dwellers that require well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots and soft substrate. They thrive in warm, slightly acidic water and prefer dim lighting. These peaceful fish are best kept singly or in small groups and should not be housed with small fish they may consume. Feed them quality sinking pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live prey. With proper care, rope fish can live 5-7 years, making them a rewarding addition for dedicated hobbyists seeking something beyond conventional aquarium species.
